Immediate Need for Volunteer Lawyers by Foundation Grantee (07/11/2010)

The Alabama Initiative of the Georgia Innocence Project (GIP) is seeking volunteer lawyers to help in cases throughout Alabama.

Volunteer lawyers must be willing to handle one post-conviction criminal case.

The work will be limited to handling a Motion for Post-Conviction Forensic DNA Testing. The cases involve capital murder convictions in which the defendant is serving Life Without Parole. These cases are not Death Penalty cases.

GIP has been investigating these cases and will continue to investigate them and prepare them for litigation. We will join the volunteer lawyers on the pleadings Pro Hac Vice and will assist in any way necessary.

We need attorneys in the following counties:

Colbert

Coosa

Dallas

Houston

Jefferson – Bessemer Division

Jefferson – Birmingham Division

Limestone

Madison

Mobile

These Motions are being finalized and MUST be filed by July 30, 2010.
